I write this in memory of our friend and colleague, Professor Kuo Yung-Huai, whose 90th birthday is being observed in April.
I had the great good fortune to acquire the services of Dr. Kuo at Cornell University in 1946, when I was assembling the faculty of the new Graduate School of Aeronautical Engineering. Dr. Kuo served as a distinguished member of our faculty until his return to his native land in 1956.
Dr. Kuo’s contributions to Cornell and the new School were outstanding. He was a specialist in the understanding of the difficult regime of flight called “transonic”. His loyalty to his colleagues and students was legendary. His former Cornell students, many of whom became outstanding themselves, still remember the deep respect and devotion with which he presented and interpreted the laws of physics.
All of us who knew Dr. Kuo as teacher and friend now recall him with love and respect.
